REGRETFUL RUINS

On a wintry Sunday morning, I walked through the ancient ruins of Kondapalli Fort. I’m baffled; should I enjoy and catch in my camera the magic of light and shadows streaming through the broken walls and dark green branches stretching from huge trees taken roots in the wide cracks of the walls. Or should I feel saddened by the destructive evidence of monumental neglect of the crumbling fort?

The trees, the shrubs, the bushes seemed richly relishing the breezy winter warmth. On the other hand, the relics of the fort: the pillars, the archways, the stonework though standing majestically; but, the disrepair, the negligence, and the devastating effect of the modern man’s guilt are tragically obvious.

(Kondapalli Fort is 35k.m from Vijayawada, In Andhra Pradesh, India.)
